I remember watching this happening live on TV, an awe inspiring event that hinted at the collapse of the Soviet Union a couple of years later. The novelty soon wore off for the West Germans though, once they saw the size of the reunification bill in Deutchmarks :)

Its a shame that some didn't make it, also any remember this Berlin soldier, as soon as the Berlin wall was nearly complete, he took a run for it, and managed to get to the other side, which was West Germany
