View Full Version : Teeth grinding in your sleep
Hi,
Has anyone here had this problem? Do you still?
I had this problem as a teen...I'd get so stressed out I'd wake up with migraines from clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth in my sleep. I don't recall what happened, but the problem went away.
In the last week or so, I've noticed Chris is picking up this habit. He needs to stop, but the only way I know of that I can help is by waking him up. I don't think he sees this as a helpful solution in the middle of the night.
Any ideas?

Sorry I don't have any ideas but my sister does this too. If she falls asleep next to me I wake her because I don't like to sounds of it
I do this too and you can get teeth shields from your dentist that can help stop it.
It not only protects your teeth but takes the pressure from your mouth and it reduces the headaches etc.

Yeah that would be my only advice too. I grind my teeth too, I don't know how often I do it, no one is there to tell me, but some nights I wake up from it because my jaws ache from the pressure.

I dont grind my teeth, but I clench my jaw. I think that is part of the reason I have bad teeth, but I'm not sure. I am going to the dentist soon for my yearly cleaning and consultation, and I was gonna ask what to do about it.....

a bite plate is the best thing. Usually it's because your teeth are not properly aligned, combined with stress.
Thanks for the advice ladies.
Now I've got my work cut out for me getting Chris to the dentist.
3 of my front teeth are on posts, and every few years I have to get them redone because I destroy them during my sleep. Getting good dental work certainly helps reduce possible damage but it wont stop the grinding and clenching. I suspect that grinding and clenching is our way of working through deep-seated stress.
I often grind my teeth in my sleep. Some mornings my jaw really aches. I've done this since I was a child.

I suffer from it when I'm stressed so if I'm feeling stressed or I notice myself grinding I wear a mouthguard to bed. That way if I do grind, I'm just rubbing against the mouthguard and my teeth don't get damaged
I do the same thing.... one of my last visits to my dentist, I was fitted with a night guard. It is a bit foreign feeling at first, though you adjust to it. It does make a difference in the morning. **I just wish I could stop myself from doing it during the day while I'm at work and the like. *sigh*
