View Full Version : Google Streetmap UK has gone live!
Google Streetmap has gone live, a large camera attached to Google cars travelled through the streets of 25 cities in the UK and scanned photos as it went.
The cities are: England - Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Coventry, Derby, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Oxford, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Southampton, York
Scotland - Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow
Northern Ireland - Belfast
Wales - Cardiff, Swansea
You may be famous on Google! Can you find yourself? Any interesting landmarks you would like to share? Go to http://maps.google.co.uk, enter a postcode or an address and click and drag the orange 'man' to the street you want to view in 'real time' and go from there...
Click link and copy/paste here and share it with us :)
Please be cautious if you want to post images of your home, workplace etc When you provide a direct link to an image, when it's hovered over you can see the full address. At the end of the day you don't know what guests are viewing these boards. Please use screenshots if you want to show your house, workplace etc. Otherwise the link will be removed from your post for your safety.

I was just reading an article on how Google have already had to remove some images from this (like someone getting arrested)
It's fun to see the streets like that, it's more interesting than a normal map. :) I've heard there are plans to do this in Belgium too, but there could be some problems with the privacy laws we have here... I hope they do give streetviews from Belgium too soon. :)
Oh my God, I just spotted a council warden looking at my car at my Mum house :-o unless it an old picture, but this is really amazing, I can see my Dad car so nice and clear, one of the neighbours children standing across the road :-D
The pictures are so clear

They have only one of my brother's houses mapped, the other one hasn't been yet. It's SO cool! I wonder when they took those.

yesterday they were driving through Brussels, I saw it on the news
That is so cool :)
Looked at my work, my parents house and the first house I moved into :)
The pics must be from last year though as cabot circus is in the middle of being built ;)
I just been speaking to my sister, she quite concern, that on some roads, you can zoom up very close to people windows, she think it very nosey, I also view my brother road, I can see his jeep, his house all very clear.
I love the streetview option, I have already checked out the hotel and the street I'll be staying at in NY. :-D
I guess it will take a while before Google does my hometown...

On my brother road, there are 3 kids standing on the corner, 2 of them have their faces blured out, apart from one, which you can see quite clearly, it ok Google saying if there a imaged they are concern about, they will removed it, but it doesn't help if you haven't got access to a computer. I personally think this is Big Brother watching you.

Its fantastic , but I am a little worried about privacy too, I mean I hang my washing out on the line, people could have a look at my smalls
Just looked up my street (I'm in Leeds) and its still a very old shot, at least 3 years old.

We've had a story around here today of someones three year old son being pictured playing in the garden...naked. He's been pixelated now but if I was his mother I'd be mortified...you never know who is watching...

My nephew and his grandma are on it outside my nephews house  it's totally annoyed my nephew as yes he's cool being on Google Street View...but not with his grandma  He's 13 and his coolness is fading...

Omg, that's shocking. :-o Good thing his mother noticed and it was taken off... that's the problem with the Street View, I bet Google has spent a hell of a lot of time editing and pixelating images that are inappropriate.
On another note.... Cardiff is in Street View, yet Newport isn't yet!
